Volcanic Tongue- September 2011 Excellent new duo exchange featuring Pascal Nichols of Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides on percussion/electronics and Julien Dupont on horns. Some of Pascal’s most overtly free jazz-damaged percussion moves here, with an attack that has the kind of hypnotic pulsing undertow of Hamid Drake’s work with Die Like A Dog crossed with the aggressive non-linear dynamism of a Paul Lovens. It’s a wide ranging set, moving from muezzin-on-acid meets electronics and delay through celestial Taj Mahal/Cherry-isms ala PWHMOBS and even some deep-space psych that could almost be early Makoto Kawabata. Pretty much my favourite Pascal appearance outside of Part Wild proper. Edition of 100 copies. Recommended. |
